Our group studies the role and regulation of the post-translational modification (PTM) O-GlcNAc, or O-linked N-acetylglucosamine. This essential glycan is cycled on and off nuclear, cytosolic, and mitochondrial proteins impacting their function. Our interests lie in understanding how cells use this PTM at times of stress to promote survival and how the cell communicates with the enzymes that cycle O-GlcNAc to affect changes in protein glycosylation in response to physiological signals.


We recruit researchers with a strong interest in understanding the mechanisms by which protein O-GlcNAcylation regulates protein function and in turn cellular physiology. Our team has a diverse background that includes expertise in glycobiology, mass spectrometry, bioinformatics, cell biology, neuroscience, and biochemistry.
